New ADCA Region 7 Director!

Mark Ballard is your new Director for Texas and Louisiana. Congratulations Mark and thank you for your service to our Dexter community!

Get to know Mark by reading his BIO below:

Personal Info: I am 60 years old and retired. My wife Diana and I have been married for 41 years and we have two daughters and two grandchildren. We gifted some land to our daughters and they both built houses and moved their families onto the Ranch. We are really thankful for having three generations living out here (and it’s nice to have the extra hands to help out).

Professional Info: My education and background is in Finance. I worked 16 years in nuclear power generation and 17 years as a Financial Advisor. I retired from Edward Jones in 2018.

Cattle Experience: I came to raising cattle via my wife Diana. Her family had a large farming and ranching operation and a few years after we got married we purchased a ranch of our own. We had a commercial cow/calf operation for several years and then transitioned to raising registered Brahman Cows and registered Hereford Bulls. We produced and sold certified F1 replacement heifers and steers. We sold the ranch in 2006 and moved to South Texas for my work. We bought another ranch in 2013 and started working to improve it and get it ready for when I retired. During this time we built our barn and house, cleared the land of invasive brush, improved pastures with native grasses and got our fences and pens in place. We researched cattle breeds and decided that Dexters would be perfect to meet our goals. The smaller size of the breed, the good temperament, and the benefit that they are efficient on pastures that are not highly improved made it an easy decision. The fact that they are multipurpose and that the beef is a very good quality is definitely a bonus. The focus of our operation is to raise quality beef and replacement heifers. We will begin marketing beef locally within the next year.

Interests: We are involved in our Church. I am also a musician and play the piano, bass and ukulele. I am in a folk music trio play in bluegrass jams and occasionally play instruments at Church when requested.

ADCA Annual General Meeting of the Members

The ADCA Board of Directors wishes to invite you to join us for the 2022 Annual General Meeting  Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 2:00pm CST.
Hello ADCA Members,

It is time for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2022! In recent years, the AGM has been part of our national show and expo, where members of our association would gather together, in person, at a centralized location. The board has decided to use a virtual or online platform this year (using Zoom collaboration tool). The board hopes that by having a virtual meeting more members will view and participate in the AGM. The board will present various association information, to include such topics as financials, committee updates, announcements etcetera. Participating members will be given the opportunity to ask the board questions and vote during the meeting. The current issue of the Dexter Bulletin (Vol 2022 / No. 3) contains some helpful information for attending the AGM.
Who is invited: The ADCA Board of Directors (Regional Directors and Officers), participating members and general public.

What: 2022 ADCA Annual General Meeting

When:  Saturday, November 12th, 2022 @ 2:00pm (CST)
**The Zoom Invitation is found at the Bottom of this email**

Where: Zoom virtual conference call and live streaming to Facebook

Here is how you can participate in the AGM with this invitation:
1. You can directly join the Zoom meeting by simply clicking on the join meeting link in the email (you will be asked to do a 30 sec download first.) This option allows you to type questions directly in the meeting chat, where the board will be monitoring questions. You will be able to participate in instant polling questions. You will be able to see the documents displayed during the meeting. The participant video and sound will be off, so you do not have to worry about being on camera.

How to simply watch or listen to the AGM:
1. You can watch the meeting on the ADCA Facebook page where we will be live streaming the meeting. We will not be monitoring Facebook for questions.
2. The last option is to call the Zoom Dial In phone numbers listed in the invitation. This option will only allow you to listen to the speakers.

If you are able to join the live meeting, please understand we will have all participants video off and sound muted during the meeting, to maintain the meeting schedule. We will be monitoring the chat window for any questions coming through to the board and we will certainly do our best to organize and address member questions as they come in.

We hope that you are able to join the association in the AGM! Reach out to your Regional Directors with any questions. You can find their contact information on the ADCA website:  https://dextercattle.org/the-adca/

Thank you,

ADCA Board of Directors

The ADCA Dexter breeders did a fantastic job at the Houston Livestock Show! So many wonderful Dexters to represent the breed to the public. The youth breeders were really impressive in their hard work and professionalism during the entire event. You can look through the pictures found on the link above. I would have posted more pictures but I need to get permission first!

Mother Earth News Fair ~ Success!

The fair was a good success for our Dexter breed, region and the ADCA! Nancy Bowers of Lonestar Ranch brought 5 beautiful and well behaved Dexters to the event. The Dexters were wonderful ambassadors for the breed. Everyone seemed to enjoy looking at the herd, along with a little bit of petting and treats for the herd. Nancy did a fantastic job on being organized for the 2.5 day trip. She also talked with many patrons who came through wanting to learn more about Dexter cattle. Sharie Stocklin of Rocking Star Ranch was a great help in getting everything set up in a nice way, along with her discussions with patrons who came in for the event. Sharie also was the kid favorite because she had the fun activities and goodies to keep the fun going, while their parents took a moment to ask us questions. The Mother Earth News org likes to use Belton Texas as a good location for their fair traffic. If you missed this year, keep an eye out for events in February 2023. Below are some pictures to show you how the event looked at setup!
