I contacted the Texas Department of Agriculture (Organics Division.) Recently I have been approached by breeders interested in organic farming and Dexters.
There appear to be many questions in the area of vaccinations, pastures, treatments, etc. with organically raised cattle. I had a long discussion with the Director of the organic division. She shared some very helpful information. I am attaching those documents below. I found it interesting that not only are vaccines allowed in organic farming they are actually encouraged and required in some cases. For those interested in taking on verified organic herd project, you will need to have two permits. One is for the herd and the other is for the pastures. According to the state of Texas, our state is at full capacity for organic farms, due to staffing. You will have to seek other avenues for getting permits/certification for organic farming.
