Who is supposed to register my calf that was just born on my farm?

1. The First Owner of record is the only person who can register the calf. How do I know who the first owner is? The first owner is the person who is on file with the ADCA as owning the Cow (mother) at the time of the calf being born. If your name is on the ADCA papers for the cow, when she had that calf, then you are considered the first owner and must register the calf. If you bought a pregnant cow, and the seller never transferred the cow into your name, then whoever is listed as the owner, when that calf was born, will have to register the calf.

Who is considered the Breeder of record?

1. The breeder of record is the person who is ADCA listed as owning the cow (dam) at the time the breeding occurred. If you bought a cow that was already bred when you got her, then the breeder will be the person listed as owning that cow when she was bred.

Here is a real-life example:

I was listed as the ADCA owner of record for a cow named Tidbit. This cow was bred to my ADCA Bull in March 2019. Then I decided to sell Tidbit as a bred cow. I sold her to a buyer and completed the transfer of ownership to this new family in June 2019. Tidbit was living at this new farm, under the ADCA ownership of this new family. Tidbit went into labor and calved on Dec 19, 2019. Tidbit's owners would like to register the new calf. I will be listed as the breeder since I was the ADCA recorded owner of Tidbit when she was bred. This means that the calf's name needs to have my Breeder prefix for my farm (Dynasty.) Tidbit's new owners are the First Owners, as they were the ADCA recorded owners of Tidbit, at the time of her calving.

To get this calf registered the new owners will need to do this:

Farm Name or Breeder Prefix

It is NOT required to have a farm name or breeder prefix figured out until you are ready to register your first calves, where you are the breeder of record. You have some time but pick a good one, as this prefix will need to stick with your farm for hopefully years and years to come. No pressure:)
